My adventure started January 2, turning 22 and starting a new chapter in my life I set off to New Zealand. The air New Zealand plan was huge, it was two stories high and first class had beds. Once we got to New Zealand we headed to Waitomo, we went caving and rock climbing. Caving was amazing we dropped into this hole that was 70 ft to the ground it was pretty cool we got to see glow worms and found out what they actually were (maggots). After Waitomo we headed to Taupo and went white water rafting which was so fun! Then we headed to Mangaweka and went on a rafting trip and tramping, we got to meet some pretty awesome people. I tried whitewater Kayaking and it was defininetly trying for me and made me realize I need to work on my " fear" of new things and hopefully I can grow from this trip and work through my fears one day at a time. After our awesome time in Mangweka we now get to just chill in Wellington before heading to the South Island tomorrow which is going to be even more epic.

After reading about Outdoor ED and latent learning
I realized a lot of our guides so far have latent learned how to ride the rivers or our guides caving learned how to work the cave and knew what places avoid and where the good spots were by just doing it three times a day and learning cool tricks one guide went down like spider man it was pretty sick.
reading about outdoor ducation and it is an important part of discovering yourself and learning outdoor skills which I'm going through I realiized I need to be open to trying new things and and to not psych myself out I started to do it when I was rock climbing and I definently did it when I was whitewater kayaking.

After reading the Tao I realized all of the chapters applied to this trip and to Adam like # 2 which is called polarities Adam doesnt push to make things happen but allows them to unfold on there own and lets us make the decisions and sits back which is funny in certain situations when we have no idea how to order our days and you see Adam just chuckling in the corner at us. Anothe one that applies is Selflessness I think everyone on our trip can be pretty selfless they will always help you or even give you a pep talk when you need it we all mesh well and get along my new family. Another one I believed applied is the time for reflection the car rides were great for that if it was talking to another person about what we just did or if it was listening to my ipod zoning out and thinking about the day.

After observing our raftiung trips I would say we were doing Adventure and alternative tourism just because we got to learn how to guide the raft which was pretty fun and it was more then just Adeventure we learned things about ourselves and about eachother. Our Group impacted the culture by boosting the economy by buying food and drinks and rafting. We impacted the environment by we took tires and everything that was polluting the beautiful river and we cleaned after ourselves and really left no trace behind.
So far this trip has been life changing I cant wait for our next adventure and being able to learn and get as much as I can out of this experience.
Cheers,
Cary
